Up the Lazy River

This morning the four of us headed out on the trikes to ride into New Orleans for the day. It was colder than we would have liked 8C but we survived, us tough Canadians on bikes. Last night we checked out the Internet and got a map of the French Quarter in New Orleans. We decided on a Natchez Paddle Steam Wheeler/Super City Bus Tour for the afternoon. There was a lady playing a steam organ standing on the roof of the Natchez. Wow was that ever a good decision.
The memory of reading the story of Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn poling down the river on a homemade raft seems unbelievable on that big Mississippi River! We had a buffet Cajun lunch on the boat which included Gumbo, Red Beans on rice, southern fried chicken, alligator and crawfish sausage. Good southern food. The scenery along the river brings together the old and new architecture and the still visible devastation from Hurricane Katrina. We really enjoyed the boat and then we had a two hour bus tour and our driver/guide was really a great commentator. He brought the city of New Orleans to life! The mime you see with the dog here was good. He talked to Irene when she put a $ in his bucket but his mouth did not move!
By the time we got back to the campground it was dark. Tomorrow our plans are to head for Baton Rouge for the day.
