Baton Rouge and Countryside

Today Rick and I headed for Baton Rouge to see what the capital of Louisiana had to offer. Well what did we find but the inauguration of Bobby Jindal the new governor of the State. It was very interesting to see all the hoopla attached to such a ceremony. The weather was a little cold as we got up in the morning to 0C. Rick and I stopped and talked to a state trooper who was manning a shut off road. He gave us some information and was very friendly.
Since we were still looking for a new rock polisher we stopped at the Cabela store at Gonzales Louisiana. No luck though.
Dennis and Myrna went for a ride around the countryside.

We spent an enjoyable day traveling around Houma area, north, east and south. While north of Houma we saw orange groves around a house. We stopped to take a picture and the owner came out and we visited with him. We found out that they grow all kinds of vegetable crops. His orange and lemon trees were just hanging with ripe fruit. We picked a big bag full of fruit, 6 or 7 different varieties of oranges and some lemons. We travelled south on hwy 1 toward Grand Isle. What a difference in country side a few miles makes. We went from swampland to farm land with fields of produce, hay and cattle. Along this road is a river with a lot of ship repair places. We ended up back in Houmas and had dinner with Rick & Irene.

Dennis & Myrna ended up coming back with around three dozen oranges in their bike. We all decided to do Cajun for dinner and went to a restaurant called Boudreau and Thibadeau’s Cajun Cooking. The food was definitely different. Rick and Dennis both enjoyed the Seafood Gumbo.

Those are satsumas, if I'm not mistaken.
